Four Chinese villages among UN's best tourism destinations for 2025

UN Tourism recognises rural Chinese communities for heritage preservation, sustainability, and inclusive development

Four Chinese villages have been named among the UN World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) Best Tourism Villages for 2025. The announcement was made during a global rural tourism gathering held on 17 October in Anji County, Zhejiang Province. This is reported by CGTN, a partner of TV BRICS.

The selected villages – Digan, in Zhejiang Province, Dongluo, in Jiangsu Province, Huanggang in Guizhou Province, and Jikayi, in Sichuan Province – reflect China’s regional diversity and commitment to heritage conservation.

Each community has embraced tourism as a tool for rural revitalisation, showcasing natural landscapes, traditional architecture, agricultural systems, and active local participation, particularly among women.

UN Tourism praised China’s long-term strategy to harness tourism for poverty reduction and rural prosperity. “These villages are a model for how tourism can support inclusive development, heritage protection, and sustainable living,” said Sandra Carvao, Director of Market Intelligence at UNWTO. Officials believe the success offers valuable insights for global rural development efforts.
