India aims to cover 50% of its electricity needs from renewable sources

The country is incentivising the development of the biofuel sector

In India, biofuels are seen as a key factor in sustainable development. India's biofuels experts believe that the sector has huge potential for agriculture. It emphasises the importance of research and development to overcome barriers and realise the potential of biofuels, reported by IANS, a partner of TV BRICS.

Ramakrishna YB, an expert at the working group on biofuels under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, presented an overview of current policies, opportunities, and prospects for biofuels in India and showed two films on biofuels and carbon capture research.

Biofuels derived from renewable resources are considered a clean and sustainable source of energy. It helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which is particularly important in the climate crisis.

In India, biofuels and green hydrogen are playing a central role in the energy transition. The country is aiming for zero emissions by 2070 and 50 per cent coverage of electricity needs from renewable sources by 2030.
