India’s travel and tourism sector set to generate US$256 billion in 2025
India’s travel and tourism industry is projected to contribute US$256.3 billion to the national economy in 2025, supported by record levels of both domestic and international tourism, as reported by IANS, a partner of TV BRICS, with reference to World Travel and Tourism Council.
The report forecasts that international visitor spending will reach approximately US$37.3 billion, while domestic traveller spending is expected to climb to nearly US$186.4 billion.
In 2024, the industry supported over 46 million jobs, representing more than 9 per cent of India’s total employment. Employment is expected to rise to 48.2 million in 2025 and to 63.9 million by 2035.
Data shows that in 2024, international visitor spending reached a record US$36.8 billion, surpassing pre-pandemic levels by 9 per cent.
This surge in both domestic and international tourism led to a record US$244.7 billion contribution to India’s GDP from the sector in 2024, equivalent to 6.6 per cent of national output.
