Indonesia to convert waste into fuel and electricity in 30 major cities by 2029
The integrated waste processing will play a key role in maximising energy recovery from waste
Indonesia is set to transform waste management with a plan to convert waste into fuel and electricity across 30 major cities by 2029. This is reported by Vietnam News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
Indonesian Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot Tanjung announced that each city is expected to generate around 20 megawatts of electricity through advanced waste processing technologies.
Beyond electricity generation, the initiative will also focus on producing fuel oil using pyrolysis technology, a process that breaks down waste materials into valuable energy resources.
Tanjung emphasised that integrated waste processing, supported by innovative technology, will play a key role in maximising energy recovery from waste.
The Ministry of Environment has highlighted that accelerating waste-to-energy initiatives will significantly enhance regional waste management efforts.
To further streamline this transition, the government is consolidating three existing presidential regulations on waste management to facilitate the development of waste-powered electricity plants.
