The participants of the scientific mission have travelled more than 13 thousand nautical miles in 69 days

International Antarctic Coastal Circumnavigation Expedition 2024-2025 (CCE) has been successfully completed in Brazil. The Russian scientific expedition vessel "Akademik Tryoshnikov" delivered to the port of Rio Grande 57 scientists from Argentina, Brazil, India, China, Peru, Russia, and Chile, according to the press service of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI).

It is noted that for 69 days scientists from 19 scientific organisations of the BRICS countries conducted dozens of studies aimed at studying the natural environment of Antarctica. The expedition visited four Russian Antarctic stations, two Chinese, one Indian, and one Brazilian.

"An international team of researchers, speaking ten different languages, was able to successfully do a lot of scientific work. [...] The result of our activities will be scientific publications on the current state of the Antarctic region's natural environment," said Nikita Kusse-Tiuz, Head of the Russian group of scientists from the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute.

He said that during the expedition 19 complex oceanographic studies were carried out, 43 aerological probes were released, 90 metres of ice core and thousands of samples of sea water, soil and biomaterials were taken.

The expedition started from the port of Rio Grande at the end of November 2024.
