Iran ranks fourth globally in Intangible Cultural Heritage

Recent efforts led to the recognition of 26 new heritage files, securing Iran’s current place

Iran has risen to fourth place in the global ranking of Intangible Cultural Heritage, marking its highest position to date, according to Ali Darabi, the country's Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts. This is reported by Pars Today, a partner of TV BRICS.

Ali Darabi highlighted the nation’s progress, stating that over the past four years, Iran has advanced from seventh to fifth place in the international list. Recent efforts led to the recognition of 26 heritage files, securing Iran’s current fourth-place ranking.

He also announced that Khuzestan will host the fourth international festival of multimedia cultural heritage next year. The event is expected to showcase the province’s rich historical and civilisational legacy on a global stage.

Intangible Cultural Heritage encompasses traditions, arts, and practices passed down through generations. Unlike physical artefacts, these cultural elements, such as music, dance, craftsmanship, culinary traditions, and rituals, are preserved through knowledge, skills, and community participation rather than being housed in museums.
