Iran revives over 380 mines and 925 industrial units to boost production
The initiative is to ensure balance across the value chain, from raw materials to finished products
Iran has reactivated 381 idle mines and restored operations in 925 dormant industrial units as part of a broader strategy to enhance value-added industries and improve trade performance, according to Iranian Minister of Mines and Trade Mohammad Atabak. This is reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.
Key initiatives include the revival of the Steel Committee and the establishment of a Copper Committee to ensure balance across the value chain, from raw materials to finished products. Enhanced oversight of the mining sector and the decentralisation of decision-making, with some powers of the Supreme Council of Mines transferred to provincial councils, are expected to accelerate the reopening of inactive mining sites.
Atabak expressed optimism about Iran’s copper and gold industries, stating that expanding the value chain would drive economic growth.
He also emphasised the importance of an industrial roadmap, developed in collaboration with the private sector, to guide strategic development and enhance governance.
