Iran's semi-finished steel production shows strong growth
In Iran, the production of semi-finished steel products increased by 4.7 per cent in the first seven months of the current Iranian calendar year (from 23 September to 22 October) compared to the same period last year.
According to the experts, the country produced 18.152 million tonnes of semi-finished steel products during the seven-month period, exceeding last year's figure of 17.34 million tonnes. This is reported by the Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.
Semi-finished steel products, such as billets, blooms and slabs, are intermediate products obtained after primary smelting but before final rolling into end products (beams, sheets, rods, car parts). This product is a key leading indicator, as it reflects industrial activity at an early stage. Sustained growth in this sector heralds future activity in industries such as construction, automotive and manufacturing.
Earlier this year, Iran rose to ninth place in the global ranking of the largest steel producers. In particular, in May, the country demonstrated a significant increase in steel production of 4.5 per cent compared to the same month last year, reaching a volume of 3.4 million metric tonnes.
