Iranian scientists use reeds to treat wastewater
Iranian researcher Sonia Chavoshi has presented a new method for treating wastewater from urban landfills using native reeds (Phragmites australis). This is reported by ParsToday, a partner of TV BRICS.
In the past, waste leachate was discharged into the wastewater collection system of wastewater treatment plants or directly into surface water. However, her team developed a treatment process utilising the natural properties of the reed plants.
This method does not require large amounts of energy and does not need experienced personnel. The treated wastewater can be reused.
The new technology can significantly reduce pollution and make waste disposal more environmentally friendly.
