Let Ethiopia Produce programme registers greater step forward in enabling SMEs to contribute to country's productive capacity
A breakthrough has been achieved in the development of small and medium industries across Ethiopia
Recent reports from regional heads of administration indicate significant progress in increasing the contribution of small and medium industries to the national productive capacity under a nationwide movement dubbed “Let Ethiopia Produce”.
The initiative, launched by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed two years ago, aims to enhance sustainable industrial productivity and competitiveness by addressing challenges, encouraging innovation and boosting local production to strengthen the country's economic growth prospects. This is reported by ENA.
The Chief Administrator of South West Ethiopia, Negash Wagesho, noted that the government is focusing on the development of the manufacturing sector in line with the Ten Year Vision Plan. Achievements include revitalising idle factories, promoting import substitution, and improving the quality and quantity of export-oriented products.
In addition, the campaign contributed to the creation of employment opportunities, especially for youth, through the establishment of small and medium-sized enterprises in south-western Ethiopia. Joint efforts in value-added agricultural production have also gained traction, creating a platform for local sourcing of raw materials and industrial growth.
