Lula government announces 'zero tax' on solar panels until 2026
The decision will encourage investment in clean energy
Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's government has announced a "zero tax" (imposto zero) on solar panels until 2026. Import tax, IPI (industrial products tax), Cofins (social security funding contribution) will not be levied, as reported by Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.
"This decision will stimulate investment in clean energy and benefit Brazilian families," said Paulo Pimenta, Minister of the Secretariat of Communication to the President of the Republic.
More than R$600 million (US$117.37 million) has been allocated for the programme. With the inclusion of solar cells in the Programme for the Support of the Semiconductor Industry's Technological Development (PADIS), their production is expected to grow significantly in the coming years, creating jobs and having a positive impact on the green economy.
