National archaeological service may appear in Kazakhstan

The agency will provide scientific, consulting and technical support to archaeologists

The leadership of Kazakhstan intends to establish clear rules in the field of archaeological research and strengthen responsibility for illegal excavations. The corresponding bill has already been submitted to the lower house of parliament, according to Kazinform International News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to the draft, the country will have a national archaeological service, which will provide scientific advisory, informational, analytical and technical support to researchers. The agency will also carry out archaeological supervision.

One of the key aspects of the new draft law is a state monopoly on the display of antiquities. This will prevent the illegal export of artefacts abroad and ensure their preservation in national museums.

It is noted that the measures taken by the authorities and public organisations to preserve historical monuments are already yielding results. The number of offences in this area in 2024 decreased four times compared to the previous year. The country's leadership continues to actively work on the preservation of cultural heritage, as well as promote tourism through archaeological sites.

The agency emphasises that the popularisation of cultural monuments contributes to the development of the tourism industry. Kazakhstan already has six UNESCO World Heritage sites, and this number may increase in the future.
