Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov and Egyptian Ambassador to Moscow Nazih el-Nagari discussed the development of cooperation within the BRICS framework. This is reported by the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.

“During the conversation, the focus was on the subject of expanding cooperation between BRICS member states in light of Russia's presidency in the association in 2024,” the foreign ministry said.

The diplomats touched upon other issues of mutual interest on the international agenda.

The BRICS has gone through two waves of expansion since its founding in 2006. In 2011, South Africa joined the original membership, which included Brazil, Russia, India and China. From 1 January 2024, Egypt, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia joined the group.

Russia will chair the BRICS in 2024, and the BRICS summit will be held in Kazan in October.
