Saudi Arabia reaches record 60,000 metric tonnes of mango production

More than 20 different varieties of mangoes are grown in the Kingdom

Saudi Arabia is successfully developing mango production, meeting almost 70 per cent of its own needs for the fruit. In 2023, the country produced more than 89,500 metric tonnes of mangoes, according to the Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture. This is reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The Jazan region is the leader in mango production, growing more than 60,000 metric tonnes per year, the source said. More than 20 varieties of mangoes are grown across the country, and the harvest season is between April and August.

Experts say mangoes are known for their many health benefits and are rich in vitamins, minerals, and fibre. They aid digestion and heart health, boost immunity, reduce the risk of certain cancers, alleviate anaemia, and are good for skin and eye health.

The Ministry of Environment, Water Resources, and Agriculture is running the Harvest Season campaign to raise awareness of the availability of seasonal fruits in the country, support local farmers, and encourage consumption of local produce.
