South Africa to host XV BRICS summit in 2023 in presence
Cyril Ramaphosa invited the leaders of the BRICS association to come to South Africa to participate in the summit of the alliance. Anil Sooklal, Deputy Director-General responsible for Asia and the Middle East, Department of International Relations and Cooperation, told eNCA TV channel about this.
He said that the summit meeting for the first time in three years will be held in-person format in August 2023 and stressed that South Africa, as the BRICS chair, has planned 117 events.
According to Anil Sooklal, the summit will also be open to other African countries.
The main theme of the South African presidency is the commitment to the principles of sustainable development between the BRICS countries and Africa, Sooklal said.
Deputy Director-General responsible for Asia and the Middle East, Department of International Relations and Cooperation said that South Africa would pay special attention to the possible role of BRICS in the work of the African Continental Free Trade Area.
South Africa assumed the BRICS chairmanship on January 1, 2023. The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the BRICS member states expressed their full support for the country in holding the XV summit.
