South African province to host BRICS summit preparatory meeting
The government of South Africa's southeastern province of KwaZulu-Natal will host a BRICS gender debate in Durban on Friday, 14 July, ahead of the group's 15th summit.
According to the programme, the meeting will be moderated by political leaders, including women officials and economists from the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) and African countries.
According to Provincial Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube, the meeting aims to explore the gender specificities of political participation in the modern world.
Discussions will also focus on identifying revolutionary solutions, investments and measures that BRICS leaders should implement to advance gender justice and equality, contributing to an inclusive and prosperous African economy.
The outcome of the meeting, according to Dube-Ncube, should contribute to the adoption of the Declaration of the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg in August.
The event will be followed by the 9th BRICS Youth Ministers Summit, organised by the National Youth Development Agency of South Africa (NYDA) and scheduled from 18 to 21 July.
According to NYDA spokesperson Bongekile Skosana, the meeting will focus primarily on discussions aimed at encouraging young BRICS leaders to actively participate in addressing important global challenges, economic and social issues and contribute to the development agenda.
In addition, the BRICS Urbanisation Forum will be held in KwaZulu-Natal on 26-27 July to discuss building productive and sustainable urban economies, as well as creating inclusive urban spaces.
Finally, on 20-21 August, the BRICS-Africa Business Women's Alliance Business Conference will take place. It will bring together 500 women-owned companies, including micro, small and medium-sized enterprises from 18 countries: South Africa, Brazil, Russia, India, China, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Rwanda, Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and Lesotho.
South Africa will host the 15th BRICS Summit in August under the theme "BRICS and Africa: Partnership for Mutually Accelerated Growth, Sustainable Development and Inclusive Multilateralism", as reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.
