The Prime Minister of India has congratulated the nation on Republic Day

On Friday, 26 January, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the nation on the 75th Republic Day. A grand parade was held in New Delhi to mark the occasion. The ceremony began with Narendra Modi visiting the National War Memorial. As per tradition, the national flag was unfurled followed by the national anthem.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended his congratulations to the citizens of India.

"Hearty greetings to all the countrymen on Republic Day. On this auspicious occasion of democracy, I salute all the freedom fighters, constitution makers and the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the unity and integrity of the country. Let us all together take a pledge to protect our democratic values ​​on the occasion of Republic Day and contribute in realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's resolve of a developed India," Shah wrote on his social media accounts.

In addition, Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory telegram to Indian President Drоupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted that India has made impressive progress in socio-economic, scientific, technological and other fields. The head of state mentioned that the country enjoys well-deserved prestige on the world stage and is actively involved in addressing the most important issues on the international agenda.

Recall, Republic Day began to be celebrated on 26 January 1950, when the Constitution of India came into force. The country became a sovereign state after gaining independence on 15 August 1947.
