Unique glass jewellery is on display in Iran
Glass jewellery has gained a significant number of fans around the world
The Iranian Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts has opened a special exhibition showcasing the skills of local makers of glass jewellery and engraved stones. It will run until 8 February in the foyer of the ministry's main office.
The art of engraving on various stones, ceramics and tiles has gained considerable popularity among artisans. Although these materials are difficult to laser cut, they are excellent for intricate engravings with durability.
Some of the highlights of the exhibition are art glass jewellery. The art of Abygineh (Abygineh, intricate glass work) is deeply rooted in Iranian traditions.
This art form developed using fragments of glass. Cities such as Tehran, Isfahan, Meymand, and Kamsar flourished in this artistic field. Glass jewellery based on Abygineh's art gained a significant number of admirers.
According to available data, in the first ten months of the past 1,401 Iranian calendar year (21 March 2022 - 20 January 2023), the value of Iranian handicraft exports was reported to be US$400 million. Compared to the same period a year earlier, this figure increased by about 30 per cent. This is reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.
