Vladimir Putin invited the Indian Prime Minister to visit Russia

The Russian President referred to the significant increase in trade between Russia and India for the second consecutive year

Russian President Vladimir Putin interacted with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Wednesday, 27 December.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Chairman of the Russian part of the Russian-Indian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation Denis Manturov and Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov also attended the meeting from the Russian side.

The Russian leader referred to the significant increase in trade between Russia and India for the second consecutive year - the entire volume of growth in trade turnover of the previous year was exceeded in the first nine months of 2023. The President specified that it is primarily about supplies of energy carriers, oil and its derivatives, as well as other minerals. In addition, the countries have intensified co-operation in high-tech areas.

"We are very pleased to note that despite all the turbulence taking place in the world, relations with our traditional friends in Asia, with India, are developing progressively"

The head of state also extended an invitation to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Russia next year. This is reported by the official website of the Russian President.

"We will choose a suitable date that will be convenient for both sides in terms of their political calendar," said the Indian foreign Minister.

According to the diplomat, it is very important to strive for the sustainable nature of bilateral trade interaction to achieve even more significant results in this area.

"I would also like to particularly note the progress that has been made in the area of trade: today the trade turnover is more than 50 billion US dollars. And we believe that these are only the first steps in unlocking our potential," he emphasised.

On the previous day, the Indian Foreign Minister met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
