Belarus' Central Election Commission officially approves Aleksander Lukashenko's victory in presidential election

Foreign leaders congratulated the re-elected head of state

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus held a meeting to establish the results of the presidential election. The incumbent head of state Aleksander Lukashenko won the presidential election, receiving the support of 86.82 per cent of voters.

The second place in the presidential race went to the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Sergey Syrankov, who received 3.21 per cent of the total number of votes, while the third place went to the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party, Oleg Gaidukevich, who was supported by 2.02 per cent of voters.

At the meeting, Chairman of the Belarusian Central Election Commission Igor Karpenko said that the presidential campaign was monitored by 486 international observers from 52 countries. In addition, 331 representatives of foreign media were accredited at the Information Centre.

Leaders of a number of states have already congratulated Lukashenko on his victory in the election, according to BelTA, a partner of TV BRICS. Among them are Russian President Vladimir Putin, President of China Xi Jinping, President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the UAE Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Vietnam Luong Cuong, as well as Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Nurlan Yermekbayev, President of the Pan-African Parliament Fortune Zephania Charumbira, and others.

Putin noted that Lukashenko's convincing victory in the elections demonstrates the high political authority of the Belarusian leader and the undoubted support of the population. In turn, the Iranian president expressed confidence that the relations between Tehran and Minsk and mutually beneficial cooperation during the new presidential term would become stronger than before.

Xi Jinping expressed readiness to deepen ties between the two countries.

"I attach great importance to the development of China-Belarus relations. I am ready to join efforts with you to continue the traditional friendship between China and Belarus, deepen bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation, and promote the progressive development of the Chinese-Belarusian relations for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries"

Xi Jinping President of China

The main day of voting in the presidential election in Belarus was held on 26 January. Early voting was held from 21 to 25 January. A total of 85.69 per cent of about 6.9 million eligible voters took part in the electoral process.
