Brazil becomes main export destination for Chinese vehicles
Exports to Brazil increased 13-fold compared to the previous year
The automobile industry recorded a significant milestone this month, with Brazil emerging as the leading export destination for electric and hybrid vehicles from China.
Latest figures from a Chinese automobile association show that exports to Brazil rose impressively to 40,163 units in April, a 13-fold increase compared to the previous year.
This explosive growth in exports to Brazil is linked to the redirection of Chinese production. Brazil has taken the lead as the largest export market for two consecutive months, as reported by Toda Palavra, a partner of TV BRICS.
However, the Brazilian government is planning to implement tariffs on electric vehicles and hybrid imports from July, as part of its efforts to boost local car production and improve market competitiveness.
In response to these changes, several Chinese automakers are increasing their investments for local production in Brazil.
Despite Brazil's rise, Russia continues to lead the global export market for Chinese cars. During the first four months of this year, exports to Russia registered an increase of 23 per cent, while to Mexico and Brazil showed increases of 27 per cent and 536 per cent respectively in the same period.
