Brazilian government sets 2025 fiscal target of zero primary deficit

The document also proposes a R$90 increase in the minimum wage

Brazil's federal government has presented the bill on the 2025 budget guidelines (PLDO). Its text proposes a fiscal target of zero deficit for next year and a R$90 (US$17) increase in the minimum wage.

In addition to the targets, the government has also estimated that it will achieve a surplus in 2026. This is reported by Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.

The draft also proposes an adjustment to the minimum wage, whose value, if confirmed, will be R$1,502 (US$284) from January 2025, this value represents an increase of 6.52 per cent compared to today's wage.

The increase is in line with the new formula established by the permanent policy of increasing the minimum value in Lula's third term.

All proposals must be voted and approved by 17 July.
