Indonesia and Saudi Arabia expand cooperation in transport sector
The two countries are preparing new agreements on cooperation in aviation, maritime transport, the rail sector and other areas
Indonesia and Saudi Arabia intend to develop their partnership in the transport sector by expanding cooperation in the fields of air, maritime and rail transport, reports ANTARA.
This was announced following a meeting in Jakarta between Indonesia’s Minister of Transport, Dudy Purwagandhi, and Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser.
Among the agreements reached is the expansion of the list of airports authorised to handle international flights between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. Specifically, this includes airports in Yogyakarta and Banda Aceh.
"The cooperation needs to be continued, considering that the demand for air travel from Indonesia to Saudi Arabia — and vice versa — continues to show an increase," noted Purwaghandi.
He also reported that one of the Indonesian airlines has increased the frequency of its flights to Jeddah and Medina from December 2025.
"One important aspect is that we need to ensure fair and beneficial opportunities for the airlines of both countries, improve service quality, and maintain compliance with the regulations of each country," the minister emphasised.
Furthermore, Indonesia supports Riyadh’s initiatives to draw up several memoranda of understanding (MoUs), which will cover areas relating to transport safety, maritime transport, the rail sector and civil aviation.
It is expected that the new agreements will enable Indonesia and Saudi Arabia to expand their cooperation not only in the aviation sector but also in other key segments of the transport industry.
