Brazilian President favours job creation through green energy development

The energy that is produced in Brazil with the help of green technologies is primarily intended for the domestic market, said President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva during a trip to Sao Paulo. This is reported by Toda Palavra, a partner of TV BRICS.

"Brazil is a big country with a good scientific base and talented professionals. We can compete in the energy market with other countries. But it is worth understanding that we are not going to produce green hydrogen just to export it," the president emphasised.

He noted that it is important to develop clean energy to create jobs and improve the welfare of the population.

Mines and Energy Minister Alexandre Silveira recalled that Brazil is at the forefront of the global energy transition. According to him, 88 per cent of the country's energy is generated from clean and renewable sources. In addition, the Latin American state is home to 11 per cent of the planet's fresh water.

The politicians' statements were made during a visit to a new bioethanol plant in Bonfim Park. One of the companies located there produces about 82 million litres of biofuel per year.
