Brazilian President Lula da Silva launches programme of agrarian reform

An investment of R$520 million is expected by 2024


Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva signed a decree creating the Terra da Gente land reform programme.

According to a government statement, the plan is to provide assistance to 295,000 families by 2026. This will include 74,000 families receiving housing, 221,000 recognised or regularised plots in existing settlements and 7,000 families accessing land through the National Land Loan Scheme.

By 2024, an investment of R$520 (US$100,2 million) million is projected to reach 73,000 families. this is reported by TV CULTURA, a partner of TV BRICS.

During the launch of the Terra da Gente programme, the government signed an agreement to create nine settlements:

– Sao Felix do Xingu, PA (Pai Eterno) - 8,100 hectares - 160 families;

– Manoel Urbano, AC (Afluente) - 20,300 hectares - 125 families;

– Tartarugalzinho, AP (Altamir Mineiro) - 9,600 hectares - 120 families;

– Sena Madureira, AC (Ares) - 21,100 hectares - 91 families;

– Novo Mundo, MT (Novo Mundo) - 2,000 ha - 74 families;

– Tabocao, TO (Olga Benario) - 724 ha - 58 families;

– Barra do Ouro, TO (Reginaldo Lima) - 1,320 ha - 46 families;

– Sinop, MT (Beckhauser resettlement) - 1,000 ha - 28 families;

– Julia Negra, MS (Nossa Senhora de Aparecida) - 0,443 ha - 22 families.
