China and Russia lead as Brazil's top fertiliser suppliers in 2025

At the end of the first ten months of 2025, China and Russia retained their status as Brazil's largest suppliers of mineral fertilisers. Imports of ammonium sulphate and nitrogen-phosphorus fertilisers from China amounted to 9.76 million tonnes, and from Russia – 9.72 million tonnes. These figures were provided by the National Confederation of Agriculture of Brazil (CNA), stated Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS. 

Total fertiliser imports to Brazil in the first eight months of 2025 increased by 9 per cent year-on-year. The CNA notes that by the end of the year, the country could reach a record level of imports of these products. This could be facilitated, in particular, by a revival in demand in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. 

The rapid growth in purchases has affected the logistics situation at the port of Paranaguа (Parana state), which is key to the agricultural sector. During peak periods, the average waiting time for ships to unload reached 60 days. 

According to a report by the National Coordination Centre for International Business Cooperation (NCC), Brazil consumes about 18 million tonnes of fertilisers annually, ranking fourth after China and India. The republic's mineral fertiliser market is estimated at US$38 billion as of 2024. At the same time, steady growth to US$50 billion is forecast by 2030. 

It is also noted that the growth in demand for fertilisers is linked to the expansion of areas under major export crops: soybeans, corn and sugar cane, and the transition to more intensive cultivation methods.
