China is elected to the UN Human Rights Council for 2024-2026
This is the sixth time the country has joined the Council
The UN General Assembly has elected a new composition of the Human Rights Council. As a result of a secret voting, 15 countries were included in it. Their term of office will be three years, starting from 1 January 2024.
China has joined the Council for the sixth time. The Chinese side announced that it will use the re-election as an opportunity to continue to maintain multilateral international ties, actively participate in the work of the council and promote international exchanges and cooperation in the field of human rights, as reported by CGTN, a partner of TV BRICS.
Note that the Human Rights Council is an intergovernmental body within the United Nations system responsible for promoting universal respect for and protection of all human rights around the world and for addressing situations of human rights violations and making relevant recommendations.
