Chinese President says China is ready to work with Russia to deepen bilateral relations

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the Russian State Duma, in Beijing. This is reported by Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

The Chinese leader noted that the PRC and Russia, being each other's largest neighbours and permanent members of the UN Security Council, have extensive common interests.

"This year, Russian President Putin and I have twice held in-depth exchanges and reached many new consensus on deepening the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership in various fields," Xi said.

Noting that next year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia, Xi said China is willing to work with Russia to deepen bilateral relations characterised by good-neighbourly friendship, comprehensive strategic coordination and mutually beneficial cooperation, so as to give new impetus to the development of the two countries and contribute to the prosperity and stability of the world.

The President stressed that strengthening cooperation between legislatures plays an important role in ensuring the stable and long-term development of China-Russia relations.

Xi expressed hope that the Russian State Duma and the National People's Congress will strengthen the exchange of legislative experience and make full use of the role of special committees to provide more effective legal support for bilateral cooperation.

He called on the two countries' legislative bodies to ensure synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Eurasian Economic Union, and deepen communication and coordination within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, BRICS, G20 and other multilateral platforms.

Volodin said that under the strategic leadership of the two leaders, Russia-China relations have reached the best level in history, and noted that all parties in the State Duma have a high level of consensus on developing friendly relations with China.

Russia is ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between legislative bodies and between political parties of the two countries, actively implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, and deepen friendship and mutual trust between the two peoples, Volodin stressed.
