Chinese President Xi Jinping celebrates his birthday
He has been head of state since 2013
Chinese President Xi Jinping turns 70 on Thursday, 15 June. The politician has been leading the country for 10 years.
In October last year, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China re-elected Xi Jinping as General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee at the committee's first plenary meeting, paving the way for his re-election to a third term as Chinese President at a session of the National People's Congress (NPC). In March 2023, the relevant decision was taken unanimously by the country's deputies.
Russian President Vladimir Putin warmly congratulated the Chinese leader on his birthday. He sent a telegram to Xi noting the politician's achievements as head of the PRC. Among them are the strengthening of Beijing's position on the world stage, economic growth and improvement of the people's well-being. The Russian president stressed that re-election as President of the People's Republic of China confirms Xi Jinping's high political authority.
In addition, Putin mentioned the tangible efforts the Chinese leader is making to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation between Russia and the PRC, as reported on the official website of the Russian president.
"I look forward to continuing our constructive dialogue and working closely together on topical issues of the bilateral, regional and international agenda for the benefit of the peoples of Russia and China."
