Chinese robot prepares for half marathon demonstrating advances in robotics

An advanced version of China's humanoid robot is being tested before taking part in the half marathon. This is reported by CCTV+, a partner of TV BRICS.

The robot differs from the previous version in its larger size, longer legs and reinforced hips. Instead of simple iron plates as feet, it is equipped with special shoes that cushion the impact of running and protect joints.

The maximum speed of the robot reaches 12 kilometres per hour. However, the speed may be slightly reduced to ensure stability and endurance outdoors. Despite this, the developers are confident of successfully completing the half marathon.

In the race, scheduled for 13 April in the participants will compete on the same course, but on different lanes to ensure safety. Robotics companies, research institutes, robotics clubs and universities from around the world are invited to participate. So far, 23 organisations have registered.

According to a report on the humanoid robot market presented at the 2024 World AI Conference in Shanghai, the Chinese market size last year was about 2.76 billion yuan (about US$381.28 million). It is expected to grow to 75 billion yuan (about US$10.36 billion) by 2029, accounting for 32.7 per cent of the global market.
