Egypt targets localising the production of raw materials for the pharmaceutical industry
The initiative will help strengthen the country's economy
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with the Head of the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement, Medical Supply, and Technology Management (AUPP), Bahaa El Din Zidan, to discuss progress on pharmaceutical projects aimed at supporting local production and reducing dependence on imports. This is reported by Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.
The meeting centred on expanding the network of emergency pharmacies: 24 new pharmacies are due to open in different regions of Egypt in the coming months.
Another important initiative was the establishment of strategic warehouses for medical devices and products. The project is scheduled to be launched in the first half of 2026. The first phase will be the construction of a large warehouse with the potential to expand to 106,000 acres at six sites across the country.
The Egyptian government aims to localise the production of raw materials for the pharmaceutical industry in order to strengthen the country's economy.
This localisation strategy should lead to reduced import costs and foreign exchange retention, support local industry, and increase resilience to global challenges.
