Egypt unveils Green Construction Roadmap for sustainable urban future

Egypt has outlined a comprehensive roadmap for its transition to green construction, aiming to make sustainable urban development the defining feature of its urban growth by 2030. This is reported by Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.

The plan, unveiled following a high-level government review, sets out a series of phased steps to promote resource efficiency, renewable energy adoption, and environmentally responsible building practices across the country.

The National Strategy for Sustainable Urban Development and Green Construction, at the core of this initiative, draws on a range of inputs, including national and sectoral strategies, long-term targets, and objectives for building an integrated green urban system.

The strategy prioritises the responsible management of renewable energy sources, conservation of water resources, improved waste management practices, and the promotion of sustainable urban transport solutions.

A phased implementation plan will guide Egypt's transition to green construction between 2025 and 2030. Initial phases include the introduction of incentive schemes to encourage green building practices, widespread awareness programmes to educate stakeholders, and the launch of a dedicated green electronic platform providing information and resources.

Subsequent phases will see full activation of the green construction system, broader implementation across the sector, and the establishment of future sustainability targets.

Efforts are also underway to leverage carbon credits for ongoing projects and expand public green spaces in housing developments.
