At least 22 people have died as a result of floods caused by Typhoon Bualoi in Thailand. According to local authorities, the disaster has affected around 370,000 residents across 19 provinces, reports Vietnam News Agency (VNA), a partner of TV BRICS.

Continuous heavy rains have caused rivers to overflow, flooding residential areas and farmland, and damaging infrastructure, including roads and power lines. Rescue teams and volunteers are evacuating residents from high-risk zones and providing victims with food and essential supplies.

The main flooded areas are located in the northern and central regions, far from the southern resort areas.

The monsoon season, which traditionally lasts from May to October, regularly brings destructive floods to Thailand. Meteorologists predict that the rains will continue.

In the adopted declaration in Rio de Janeiro, the BRICS leaders emphasised that infrastructure is “increasingly suffering from extreme weather events and natural disasters, leading to economic disruptions and adversely affecting people’s lives.” The heads of state agreed to cooperate in order to improve national systems for disaster risk reduction.
