India launches artificial intelligence (AI) database that aims to boost innovation

The initiative is also in line with the country's goals to utilise AI for predictive analytics in disaster management and cybersecurity

India's Ministry of Science and Technology has launched the country's first artificial intelligence (AI) database, which aims to spur innovation and enhance national security. This is reported by IANS, a partner of TV BRICS.

The initiative will give researchers, startups and developers access to high quality and diverse datasets needed to create scalable and inclusive AI-based solutions.

The launch of the database was led by Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh at the 7th Edition of the ASSOCHAM AI Leadership Meet 2024.

The theme of the event – "AI for India: Advancing India’s AI Development – Innovation, Ethics, and Governance" – showcased India's strategic plan to harness the transformational potential of AI.

Singh emphasised that AI "is an important tool". The minister also emphasised on the key role of AI in transforming various sectors including governance, business, healthcare, education and space exploration.

He said AI will be the backbone of India's future development, fuelling economic growth and addressing pressing challenges such as climate change, public service delivery and national security.

The minister emphasised that the government is focused on using AI to empower citizens and ensure equitable access to the benefits of this transformative technology, saying that AI should bring people together.

The event was a platform for thought leaders, policy makers and industry experts to share their views to forge a responsible path for the adoption of AI in India.
