Indonesia discovers two offshore gas fields to boost domestic LPG production
The new fields are projected to begin production by the end of 2025
Indonesia’s upstream oil and gas regulatory body has announced the discovery of two promising offshore gas fields rich in propane and butane – key components for producing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). This is reported by VNA, a partner of TV BRICS.
The new fields are located in the Northwest Java offshore region and are projected to begin production by the end of 2025. The first field is expected to produce 200 tonnes of gas per day and the second 180 tonnes daily.
Yuliot Tanjung, Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, emphasised the government’s commitment to intensifying gas exploration efforts, particularly in Jambi province and other resource-rich regions.
Tanjung noted that the ministry is actively mapping areas with gas reserves capable of producing propane (C₃H₈) and butane (C₄H₁₀), vital for meeting the country’s domestic LPG demands.
