Belarus opens new dairy export channel with first skimmed milk powder deal with Malaysia
The transaction marks expanding international demand for Belarusian dairy products traded via the national commodity exchange
The first transaction for the export of skimmed milk powder to Malaysia has been registered on the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE), according to the press service of the exchange. The deal involved a trial shipment of 100 tonnes of product supplied by a dairy processing enterprise from the Minsk region and purchased by a producer of oil and fat products based in Selangor, a Malaysian state.
According to the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange, dairy products traded through the exchange have attracted buyers from 25 countries in 2026. Over the first five months of the year, the largest importers included Russia, the United Arab Emirates, and Singapore, reflecting sustained international interest in Belarusian dairy exports.
From January to May 2026, nearly 98,000 tonnes of skimmed milk powder were sold via the exchange for more than US$285 million. The platform reported a 1.7-fold increase in physical export volumes and a 1.8-fold rise in value compared to the same period last year. Growth was supported by an expanding pool of international buyers, which increased from 151 to 208 participants over the year, reports BelTA, a partner of TV BRICS.
Market trends also indicate rising demand across Asia and the Middle East, contributing to positive price dynamics. Since the beginning of the year, the average price of skimmed milk powder has increased by around 20 per cent.
