Iran and Tajikistan to introduce visa-free regime for truck drivers

Tehran and Dushanbe have agreed to lift visa requirements for each other’s international truck drivers starting in March 2026, enabling visa-free stays of up to 30 days, according to the Tajikistan Foreign Ministry.

The decision, reached through mutual government agreement, allows Tajikistan and Iranian drivers to cross land borders without visas, streamlining freight transport and enhancing trade and logistics profitability between the two nations. This is reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

The move follows discussions during a 2025 meeting between Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon and Iran’s Minister of Interior, Eskandar Momeni, which highlighted the importance of facilitating cross-border travel and improving conditions for commercial drivers.

This new visa waiver complements a previous arrangement that allows citizens of both countries to travel by air for up to 30 days within a 90-day period, further easing bilateral mobility.

In addition to transport cooperation, both countries have been actively strengthening ties in civil aviation. These measures aim to enhance compliance with international standards in 2026.

Economic collaboration has also been expanded. Iran and Tajikistan are addressing banking coordination issues and have established a joint investment task force to promote cooperation in energy, infrastructure, agriculture, and other sectors. Several bilateral agreements, including investment promotion, avoidance of double taxation, and customs cooperation, now provide a legal foundation for increased trade and investment.

Officials emphasised that improved visa-free access is expected to accelerate not only trade and logistics but also cultural and medical tourism between the two nations, marking another step toward deepening bilateral ties.
