Brazil joins South American initiative to create unified regional air transport market
Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Paraguay sign memorandum paving the way for a South American Single Sky and greater aviation connectivity
Brazil has joined Argentina, Chile and Paraguay in signing a memorandum of understanding to establish the South American Air Liberalisation Agreement, marking a significant step towards creating a unified regional aviation market, as reported by Agencia Brasil.
The document sets out the framework for the proposed South American Single Sky initiative, which aims to facilitate closer air transport integration across the continent while respecting each country's legal and regulatory framework.
According to Brazil's Ministry of Ports and Airports, the initiative seeks to expand air services and improve market access for airlines operating within South America. The agreement is expected to strengthen regional connectivity by increasing the number of direct routes and linking more cities across the continent, the Ministry claimed.
As part of the agreement, participating countries will establish a joint working group comprising national civil aviation authorities. Over the next 12 months, the group will develop proposals for the phased implementation of the South American Single Sky, including measures to harmonise regulations and facilitate greater cooperation in the aviation sector.
The initiative is expected to support regional mobility, promote economic integration and enhance connectivity between South American countries through a more coordinated air transport network.
