Iran and Uzbekistan strengthen maritime ties with investment plan in Shahid Rajaee port

Iran and Uzbekistan have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in maritime transit and logistics, with a focus on attracting Uzbek private sector investment in Iran’s Shahid Rajaee Port. This is reported by Mehr News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

The agreement was formalised in Tehran by senior transport officials from both countries, in the presence of ministers and port authorities. The MoU opens the door for Uzbek investors to participate in developing a dedicated terminal and logistics centre at Iran’s largest commercial port, located in Hormozgan Province.

A bilateral meeting was held to outline a roadmap for deeper transit cooperation and shared investment, with participation from both public officials and private logistics companies. Iran’s Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Saeid Rasouli, reaffirmed Tehran’s readiness to transform the MoU into a binding agreement and urged Uzbekistan to nominate companies for formal investment discussions. 

Both governments expressed strong support for private sector involvement in port development, positioning it as a key driver of bilateral trade growth. Rasouli highlighted Iran’s commitment to regional economic ties and emphasised that the necessary regulatory and operational frameworks would be in place to support Uzbek participation.
