Iran is determined to increase investment in tourism
Iran's Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Reza Salehi Amiri has reaffirmed the country's commitment to increase investment in tourism, including the construction of 500 new hotels. This is reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.
Salehi Amiri emphasised that the government plans to build 100 hotels each year as part of its five-year development plan, with the aim of doubling the number of employees in the tourism sector from 500,000 to one million.
"We are committed to making significant strides in the tourism industry, and infrastructure is a fundamental part of this development," he added. The minister also announced a significant increase in financial investments in the tourism sector, saying the ministry is increasing its commitments from US$225 million to US$556 million to build the necessary infrastructure to meet the growing demand for tourism services.
The minister mentioned Iran's great potential in maritime tourism, which is still largely untapped but could become an important driver of development. This area is one of the government's key objectives, along with promoting handicraft exports, especially from the Mazandaran region, which offers new opportunities in the global market.
Salehi Amiri also highlighted Iran's rich cultural heritage, holding up data on the registration of some 35,000 historical and cultural sites.
