Iran revives nearly 200 idle mines in four months, marking 18.8% growth

Iran has restored and reactivated 196 idle mines in the first four months of the current Iranian year, as reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS. The achievement represents an 18.8 per cent increase compared with the same period last year.

Between 21 March and 22 July, 196 mines were revived, activated, or developed under the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade’s revival, activation and development programme. During the same period in the previous year, 165 mines had been restored.

In the last Iranian year, the initiative led to the revival or expansion of 594 mines in total, with 96 investment packages implemented. Since its launch in 2019, the programme has reactivated nearly 2,000 mines across the country.

The plan is designed to strengthen the resistance economy by increasing mineral production, creating jobs and enhancing productivity. It also seeks to optimise the use of financial resources, data, technology and skilled labour.

Officials emphasise that reviving small-scale mines is a key part of Iran’s broader economic strategy, helping to secure sustainable mineral development and expand domestic processing capacity.
