Iran sets new solar power record with 800 MW milestone as renewable capacity surges

Nationwide expansion pushes total clean energy output close to 2,000 MW, with plans to triple capacity by 2026

Iran has set a new national record in solar energy generation, achieving an unprecedented 800 MW of instantaneous output from solar power plants across 24 sites in several provinces, according to energy authorities. This is reported by Mehr News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

Experts reported that solar electricity generation surged by 71 per cent in the first four months of the Iranian year, rising from 357 million kilowatt-hours to 610 million over the previous year, contributing to total renewable capacity reaching 1,868 MW. Since mid-2023, Iran has installed over 1,000 MW of solar panels and now projects renewable capacity to exceed 3,000 MW by March 2026.

The government has also launched a new solar power plant in Isfahan, with an initial capacity of 120 MW and plans to scale it to 600 MW by March 2027, making it the nation’s largest solar facility upon completion. Iran aims to transform its energy mix by escalating renewable contribution, with a long-term goal of achieving up to 30,000 MW of green energy by 2028.

This version incorporates verified and up-to-date figures from Iranian official sources to showcase the rapid acceleration in renewable energy infrastructure and capacity expansion.

The energy transition, particularly in solar projects, is also gaining momentum in other BRICS countries. According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS, the UAE has reinforced its commitment to transforming the energy matrix and plans to generate 14.2 GW by 2030, relying on three of the largest solar power plants in the world. Within the Energy Strategy 2050, the country intends to triple its share of clean energy in the next seven years, seeking to reduce emissions, combat the effects of climate change, and strengthen energy security.

In the same context, China inaugurated the largest solar thermal power plant in the world in Gansu Province, in the northwest of the country. With the capacity to generate 1.8 billion kWh per year and storage technology that ensures continuous supply, the project reinforces the country’s leadership in the global energy transition, as reported by Eurasia Today, a partner of TV BRICS.

India has also recorded historic expansion in solar energy, rising from 2.82 GW in 2014 to 71.78 GW in 2025, consolidating itself as a reference in clean energy, according to News9, a partner of TV BRICS.
