Nigeria to promote Chinese language learning

Language is a powerful tool for mutual understanding between peoples, authorities have emphasised

The Nigerian government will promote Chinese language learning in the country. This was stated by Larai Ahmed, Director of Education Support Services at the Federal Ministry of Education. This is reported by News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a partner of TV BRICS.

According to her, knowing Chinese will help Nigeria deepen cooperation with China in trade, education, and culture. The language helps build diplomatic ties and provides economic advantages, especially in investment and trade, Ahmed said.

She recalled that Chinese is the most spoken language in the world, with 1.39 billion speakers. The official added that the Chinese Cultural Centre is now already operational in Abuja and similar venues are being opened across the country.

There is also a Bilateral Educational Agreement with China through which Nigerian students learn the language and experience the culture.
