President of UAE Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan marks his 65th birthday
He is regarded as the driving force behind many initiatives that have contributed to the socio-economic growth and cultural diversity of the Emirates
The President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, marks his 65th birthday on 11 March.
The future President of the UAE was born in 1961 in Al Ain in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. He is the third son of the first President of the UAE, Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. He received his early education in schools in Al Ain and Abu Dhabi before enrolling in a military academy, from which he graduated in 1979.
Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has held a number of political and economic positions in the state. In November 2004 he became Crown Prince of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and in December 2004 he was appointed Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council. He has also headed several educational institutions and is a member of the Supreme Petroleum Council, which oversees the oil and energy sectors, as well as the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, an organisation that invests funds on behalf of the Government of Abu Dhabi in accordance with a long-term strategy.
The post of Ruler of Abu Dhabi is inherited within the Al Nahyan family, and the selection of the ruler is carried out in accordance with the customs and traditions observed in the emirate. According to the Constitution of the United Arab Emirates, the Ruler of Abu Dhabi automatically becomes the President of the United Arab Emirates.
Mohamed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan became Ruler of Abu Dhabi on 13 May 2022, and on 14 May 2022 he was elected President of the UAE by the Federal Supreme Council. He is the third and current President of the United Arab Emirates since the formation of the federation in 1971.
During his presidency, the UAE has continued to expand its international ties and officially joined BRICS in January 2024. This step is aimed at supporting multipolarity and strengthening international cooperation in the interests of peace, development and economic prosperity. In addition, the UAE has been a member of the New Development Bank since 4 October 2021.
