India is set to introduce a Smart Warehousing System aimed at enhancing the management of foodgrain storage through advanced digital technologies, according to IANS, a partner of TV BRICS.

The new system has been designed as an integrated technology-driven solution to improve operational efficiency across foodgrain warehouses and strengthen modern management practices. Authorities expect the platform to support the development of a contemporary warehousing ecosystem capable of meeting the country’s growing food security requirements.

According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, the initiative is aligned with national development priorities. The project forms part of broader efforts to modernise public storage infrastructure and enhance the resilience of food supply systems.

The Smart Warehousing System will incorporate artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), automation technologies and advanced analytics. These tools are expected to improve governance processes, streamline warehouse operations and provide greater transparency across storage activities.

Key features of the platform include automated gate and weighbridge operations, digital access management, intelligent monitoring of warehouse conditions, enhanced inventory visibility and real-time operational oversight through integrated dashboards. The system is intended to support more efficient decision-making and strengthen overall storage management.

During the launch programme, the Department will also recognise top-performing warehouses. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to encourage excellence in infrastructure, operational standards, safety, hygiene and service readiness while advancing the digital transformation of India’s foodgrain supply chain.
