Russia and Zimbabwe sign a memorandum of cooperation in the field of standardisation

Standardisation plays a key role in optimising trade processes and ensuring product safety, quality and reliability

Zimbabwe and Russia are working on models to develop domestic and international trade through standardisation of goods and services.

According to statistics, Zimbabwe's imports from Russia between January and September last year rose to US$25 million from US$20.4 million in the same period in 2022. However, there are some challenges in this area.

As part of efforts to address them, the Russian Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) in Harare.

Anton Shalaev, head of Russia's Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology, noted the importance of co-operation. Currently, Zimbabwe mainly exports tobacco, tea, citrus fruits and other products to Russia. The Russian Federation supplies wheat to the African country, so we need to standardise goods and services, he said.

Zimbabwe and Russia enjoy close bilateral relations: the two countries are already co-operating in various sectors, including mining, education and agriculture. This is reported by ZBC News, a partner of TV BRICS.
