Saudi Arabia works hard to preserve the archaeological Sabya Castle
The cultural heritage of the kingdom is accessible to visitors
Sabya governorate in the Jazan region is a treasure trove of archaeological wonders, each of which has its own unique history. This is reported by Arab News.
Among them is the archaeological Sabya Castle, whose origin dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. A castle with a rich history is a must-visit for any archaeology enthusiast or researcher. The castle is located near Sabya Avenue, on the territory of King Fahd Park.
The archaeological castle of Sabya, an architectural marvel, boasts spacious rooms with high ceilings and thick walls. The walls, decorated with geometric and floral patterns, are a testament to the craftsmanship of the craftsmen who built them.
Local materials, such as volcanic stone, wood, and limestone, were used in the construction. According to some reports, the clay from which the bricks were made was mined on the banks of the Wadi Sabya.
The use of volcanic stones of various sizes and shapes, in particular, gives the castle a unique and fascinating beauty. The stones were mined from volcanoes near the city located a short distance northeast of Sabya.
The Kingdom's Heritage Commission is working hard to preserve the archaeological castle of Sabya, recognising its importance as one of the most important archaeological sites in the Jazan region.
