Students in Tatarstan to see high-quality documentary films from BRICS+ countries

Films from Argentina, Iran, Nigeria, and other countries will be presented at the KFU film club “There is Cinema”

Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University (KFU) and the TV BRICS International Media Network are launching a series of joint film screenings. As part of the university project “There is Cinema”, from November to December 2025 audiences will be shown documentary films from Argentina, Russia, and Iran. Next year the programme will continue with films from Cuba, Nigeria, Brazil, and India.

“Including partner films of TV BRICS in the KFU project ‘There is Cinema’ is a new stage of cooperation. ‘There is Cinema’ develops the habit among students of watching high-quality popular science films, discussing them and engaging in critical thinking. Documentary films of TV BRICS and partner content of the media network enrich the work of our film club, and thanks to this cooperation, its participants receive a better educational, modern and multifaceted product,” said Elena Elshina, Director of the Department of Information Policy of KFU, in an exclusive comment to TV BRICS.

Screenings began on 13 November. The schedule for the current year includes films by media network partners: "Trombonists" (Argentina), "My Brother Joaquin" (Argentina), "Saffron. A New Industry "(Iran), as well as TV BRICS’ own productions "Partitura. Young Music of Russia", "Gold" and "More Precious than Gold".

Screenings scheduled for 2026 include the films "Caribbean Festival. Fire Festival" (Cuba), "Discovering Ofala: Umudioka" (Nigeria), "Immersion" (Brazil), "Therukoothu" (India), as well as Russian films "Magadan Silver", "The Golden Coast of the Arctic" and "Uralian Anomaly".

The director of the Nigerian film "Discovering Ofala: Umudioka", Tochukwu Nwaiwu, shared the central idea of his work in a conversation with TV BRICS.

“Umudioka is for anyone living outside the South-East who wants to truly feel the rhythm of Igbo life. And for us, the Igbo people, it is more than a film – it is a mirror, an invitation to rediscover the beauty of who we are. It is a warm, human journey into heritage, pride, and belonging,” he noted.

The director also noted that guided by first-time visitor of Umudioka Nancy Ekwueme, the audience experiences the awe of sacred traditions: chieftaincy installations, the regal processions of the Igwe’s cabinet and other rituals of Igbo.

The screenings will take place at the university, and their recordings will later be shown on KFU’s popular science TV channel – UNIVER TV.

This project is implemented within the framework of a partnership agreement between Kazan Federal University and the TV BRICS International Media Network. Cooperation includes content exchange and joint work to promote education, science, and culture of the BRICS+ countries.
