UAE and Egypt discuss expanding geological exploration and increasing gas production in Nile Delta
The parties expressed confidence in the further development of their energy partnership and noted the improvement in the investment climate in Egypt’s oil and gas sector
Egypt and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have discussed prospects for expanding cooperation in the energy sector, including the development of geological exploration and the increase in natural gas production from onshore fields in the Nile Delta. As reported by Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.
At a meeting with representatives of the UAE’s energy sector, Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, expressed his intention to strengthen cooperation with UAE energy companies and to create a stable and attractive investment environment that would facilitate the expansion of their financial presence in Egypt, increase oil and gas production, and advance mutual interests.
The parties discussed the application of modern extraction technologies, including horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing. These methods help to improve the efficiency of reserve development and increase well productivity.
Representatives from the UAE’s energy sector reported positive results from recent exploration and drilling programmes in Egypt. According to them, the work carried out has contributed to a 20–25 per cent increase in proven gas reserves and opened up opportunities for further exploration.
As part of the new plans, two additional wells are to be added to the exploration programme, which will accelerate the ramp-up of natural gas production and harness the potential of promising areas in Egypt’s Nile Delta.
