Thailand’s vehicle production increases in February amid electric vehicle surge
Сar production rises 3.43 per cent in February 2026
Thailand’s automotive sector recorded steady growth in February 2026, supported by rising electric vehicle (EV) production and continued export activity, according to Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
Total vehicle output reached 117,952 units, marking a 3.43 per cent increase year-on-year. The expansion was largely fuelled by higher production of pickup trucks for the domestic market and passenger cars destined for export.
A key driver of growth was the rapid expansion of electric mobility. Output of fully electric passenger vehicles surged by 53.7 per cent compared to the same period last year, reflecting the accelerating shift towards cleaner transport and the impact of government-backed incentives supporting local manufacturing.
In cumulative terms, Thailand’s car production for the first two months of 2026 rose by 6.87 per cent, reaching 236,338 units, indicating sustained momentum in the sector at the start of the year.
Shipments of fully assembled vehicles totalled 81,195 units, representing a marginal 0.05 per cent decrease compared to a year earlier. Growth in hybrid vehicle exports helped offset a decline in shipments of pickup passenger vehicles.
